This is a product review for the BedJet 3 bed heating/cooling system. We don’t sell it ourselves, but in the spirit of making you happier in bed, we want to share our thoughts on it. It’s been lifechanging for us!

I tried a competitor’s water-based system and became worried about mold and tired of refilling and cleaning the water cartridge. BedJet was designed Mark Aramli, who helped engineer NASA spacesuits, so as fellow space nerds this naturally appealed to us. Some of the best solutions are the simplest ones, and the BedJet just blows air through a sheet – gotta love it! Though it sounds simple, adding a climate control system to your bed set up can transform your sleep experience (or other things you might do in bed! 😉 )

There are tons of applications for a system that regulates bed temperature. You might enjoy a system like this if you live in a really cold climate, or like me, if you get particularly hot at night (maybe even due to menopause or other health conditions). Many people get their best sleep at a different temperature than their partner. And since this is an adult toy website, we must point out that controlling the temperature of your sheets can enhance your solo or partner play experience!

What is the BedJet, exactly?

The BedJet system is an air pump (stowed under or beside your bed) that shoots air through a cool, spacey-looking tube into a double layered sheet. This disperses the air between the sheet and your body, warming or cooling the area under your covers. You feel it quickly, it’s easy to maintain (no need to buy sanitizing liquid or stuff like that), and it has a 2-year warranty. Compared to other systems, it seems like the simplest and most resilient design. It’s already outlived the competitor’s system that I used before and still going strong! BedJet has consistently high ratings by other users, and the BedJet app is highly rated and easy to use as well.

Setting up the BedJet 3 System

It’s pretty simple! The BedJet 3 is five main components: the console unit, the tubing and nozzle, the mattress bracket, the remote, and the double layer sheet. We purchased the BedJet 3 Dual Zone system in the king size and an extra king-sized Cloud Sheet (the Dual Zone set includes one Cloud Sheet, but I got an extra anyway).

Position Hose and Clamp

Connect the hose to the clamp that holds the hosing in place under your mattress. We have a platform bed and 13″ mattress (Avocado Green Mattress with Organic Latex Plush Topper). The hose and clamp are adjustable and should fit pretty much any bed configuration.

Place the Sheet Face Down

The double-layer BedJet Cloud Sheets have a sewn-in tag that reminds you which side faces down. The side that faces down is slightly more porous to allow airflow. When the BedJet is on, air flows through the inside of the sheet and dries, cools or warms your skin.

Side note on the sheet: It feels super high-end; 100% cotton with a substantially high-quality weave and weight. Mine is king-size and hangs down about 2-3 inches past the base of our mattress on the sides. If you get two consoles; one for you and one for a partner, you’ll want to order a split queen or king sheet so that you can control your systems independently.

Insert Nozzle into Sheet

The sheets have two slits on each corner of the end of the sheet so that you can either connect the tubing to the side or the very end/foot of the bed. Be sure to button up the slits you’re not using so that the sheet can maintain proper airflow. If you leave an unused slit open, the air will escape, and it won’t be as effective!

Side note on the sheet: It feels super high-end; 100% cotton with a substantially high-quality weave and weight. Mine is king-size and hangs down about 2-3 inches past the base of our mattress on the sides. If you get two consoles; one for you and one for a partner, you may want to order an extra dual zone queen or king Cloud Sheet to have a spare on hand.

Buckle the snaps onto the edge of the sheet slit to hold it in place.

Connect Hose Into BedJet’s Air Port

Connect the hose to the console, which fits under most beds. Ours was a tight squeeze, and the unit is about 6″ in height – but it miraculously fit! Now, plug it in!

Pair the Remote

Pair the remote and console unit by walking through the setup process on the remote. You don’t need WiFi to use the remote, and you can always connect to the app later like I did. The remote has a color screen and only lights up when it’s being handled – that means fewer distractions at night!

Since I’ve had the BedJet, we’ve had a couple power outages. When this happens, the remotes stay paired with their respective units – all I’ve had to do is reset the time on the remotes.

If you have more than one console, you can rename your console in the settings to avoid confusing the remotes. Optionally, you can control both consoles with one remote if you have a dual zone set up.

The system can only cool so much based on the current temperature of your home. This is because it uses convective cooling to accomplish what it does. Trying to run the cooling feature in an environment over 79 degrees will overwhelm the system.

Optional: Pair with the BedJet App

I used our BedJet 3 for months before ever exploring the app, but now that it’s finally getting cooler, I’ll be using the heat function more often. Since the app allows you to store up to 3 settings, you can have it ready to go if the weather suddenly changes! Pairing your console to the app is really easy. The app is highly rated – it’s intuitive and responsive.

The app also has a “Biorhythm Sleep Sequence” feature, which has pre-set temperature suggestions depending on your inputs. You can toggle or edit all of these to fine tune your experience falling asleep. It’s especially nice if you require a little warmer setting at first. The system can cool down after a short period of time while you sleep! You can also program a temperature wake up trigger.

My Experience with the BedJet 3

In these photos, the left side of the bed is turned on to 35% (fan) on the cool setting, but you can already see the sheets puffed up. (And that’s my cat who likes to oversee the bed making process, hah!)
Even with a down comforter and duvet on the bed, you can still see the left side puffed up slightly more than the right (which is turned off).

The system is strong – you really feel it! I tend to get VERY hot while sleeping, but at the same time, I like the sense of safety that I get from a heavy comforter. With the BedJet blowing, I literally get the best of both worlds – a gentle breeze circulating under my sheets while I’m shielded by my comforter… and maybe even an extra blanket. 😀 Now that’s ideal.

Noise Level

How loud is the BedJet? Not loud at all. Instead of a whirling fan sound, the BedJet is more of a soft blowing or whooshing noise, similar to an HVAC vent. Standing from about 5 ft away from the console, and with an ambient noise level of 25 dB in my house (it was a quiet day!), the BedJet’s noise measured as follows:

  • Fan at 20%: 27 dB
  • Fan at 40%: 32 dB
  • Fan at 60%: 38 dB
  • Fan at 80%: 44 dB
  • Fan at 100%: 46 dB

Maintenance: Cleaning the Filter

You need to clean the BedJet console filter about every 3 months. This is really the only maintenance needed. Just pop off the vent piece, rinse the foam filter in water and let dry. We had some renovations done recently, and our filters got especially dusty as a result! If your system doesn’t seem to be blowing as strong, it may be time to check the filter.

In summary, this system is life changing. If I forget to turn on my ‘BJet, I usually wake up in middle of the night from being too hot. I’m reminded of its effectiveness in times like that, hah! In the summer with the indoor AC blasting, I cranked the fan up to 75% with the BedJet temp set at 78 degrees, and it was actually too chilly for me. I say this as someone who nearly sweats in puddles without intervention. Just having near-room temperature air circulating under the sheets helps evaporate sweat and keeps your skin cool.

BedJet 3 = ABSOLUTE game changer.
